Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Expands Universe with New Comic Spinoff

The world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) is set to expand once more, as IDW Publishing announces a new comic book series spinning off from the popular streaming series on Paramount+. The announcement comes ahead of the eagerly anticipated second season of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is expected to debut later this year.

Since its release, the 2023 animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem by Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures has breathed new life into the franchise, alongside the long-running TMNT comic series by IDW Publishing. The film’s success led to the creation of the Paramount+ series, which debuted in 2024, and now, the universe is expanding further with a new three-issue comic book series.

A New Chapter in TMNT Lore

IDW Publishing’s latest addition, titled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will feature the comic book debut of writers Mikey Levitt and Andrew Joustra, with artwork by Louie Joyce. The series will introduce original characters from the streaming series into the comic world for the first time, alongside classic TMNT characters yet to appear on the streaming platform.

Levitt, part of the Tales of the TMNT production team, expressed his excitement about the project.

“TMNT comics are so iconic, so to have this opportunity to create a new iteration is a dream come true,” commented Levitt. “Now having written for the show and comics, there are so many exciting paths within this world we can send the characters, and I think the fans will love where we go this time!”

Creative Visions and Fan Expectations

Andrew Joustra, who worked on the Mutant Mayhem production team, also shared his enthusiasm.

“I’m beyond thrilled and honored to be going on a new adventure with the Turtles,” remarked Joustra. “We’ve been given the unique opportunity to further explore this iteration of the TMNT and introduce them to a new spin on some familiar faces.”

Joustra hinted at a personal story involving the character Fugitoid, promising fans a fresh take on beloved characters.

Artist Louie Joyce, a lifelong TMNT fan, described the project as “an absolute dream.” He noted,

“The style and aesthetic of this latest generation of Turtles is so unique and fun! I’m having a blast exploring and expanding on it through my own art and storytelling. Humour, heart, action! It’s all happening on these pages, in that perfect TMNT way.”

The Future of TMNT

The second season of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will bring back the main voice cast from Mutant Mayhem, featuring talents such as Nicolas Cantu, Micah Abbey, Brady Noon, and Shamon Brown Jr. This continuity ensures that fans of the animated movie will find familiar voices as they dive into new adventures.

Meanwhile, IDW continues to enrich the TMNT universe with other comic series, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Jason Aaron and Juan Juan Ferreyra, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey Jones by Alex Paknadel and Amancay Nahuelpan, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder by Dan Watters and Michele Bandini.

The first issue of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to hit shelves on Wednesday, October 15th. As the TMNT universe continues to grow, fans can look forward to more exciting stories and adventures with their favorite heroes in a half-shell.
